In the acting industry, many up and coming actors like myself will do commercials because they pay so well and give the actor amazing exposure to an audience. It’s quick money, and will fill the void in between movies or TV shows that you’re working on. Even though I don’t want to be typecast as a “Commercial Actor”, I think it is an avenue that I need to start pursuing to continue to further my brand and put my face out there. It will also provide extra money that will help pay for additional acting classes and travel to auditions around the US. With my build, experience, and athletic ability, I want to also pursue athletic commercials because they are looking for “Young, Athletic, Outgoing Men”, and I fit the bill. This will also help me build my resume for producers that will want to hire me for speaking roles, as well as more daring stunt-like roles in feature films.
I have been looking on various websites for commercial auditions, and applying like crazy for the ones that I think will be a good match, and I saw one for an athletic commercial, where they ask to send in a tape of me doing something that shows my athletic skills in “A Natural Environment”. At first, I thought it may be a great idea to videotape me playing basketball since I used to be a dead eye shooter, but I haven’t shot one in months, so I knew I would be rusty. I have pretty much stopped playing basketball because I am scared to get hit in the face, or hurt a body part which will prevent me from working out like I do and slow the progress of “The Journey”, so I get my cardio through ultra-intense gym workouts and heavy dieting. I realy do miss the competition because I was the sort of player who wanted to win at all costs, and wanted to be the guy to take the last second shot to win the game. Many people don’t have the courage to be that guy, but I was born to handle pressure, and refuse to lose.
I decided to show me playing football because I have an amazing arm, and growing up, always played quarterback with all my friends in pick-up. I throw the ball around all the time, and I once had a former college player tell me, “Your arm is college level strength and accuracy”. I told him that I really didn’t work on it, but I can throw a ball pretty far in a perfect spiral on the money to a running player, and understand the game of football as well as many coaches. I have perfect quarterback height and build and also have strong hands that are large enough to grip the ball. Sometimes I wonder if I picked the right sport to play (Basketball), because even though I was so good, I genetically couldn’t compete with players who were just bigger or more athletic, where with my physical gifts I could have probably played other sports professionally (Tennis, Swimming, etc).
Here are the videos of me playing football. I wanted to make them very natural and relaxed so the casting directors could see my personality come through.
