When you are arguably the biggest teenage star in America as the star of the hit show “Blossom” and playing a young Bette Midler in the classic movie “Beaches”, on the cover of every magazine imaginable, and acting as an icon to millions of teenage girls, how do you follow that up? You go and get your PHD in Neuroscience from UCLA, marry your college sweetheart and become mother of two children, and return to the television world on one of the hottest current award winning shows “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS (She plays Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler), and then publish a book about holistic parenting that is taking Amazon by storm (Currently #2 in Parenting and rising!) called “Beyond The Sling” which is destined to hit the NY Times Bestseller List shortly. This is the unique path and story of the awesome Mayim Bialik, who outside of her incredible acting career (She has also appeared throughout her career on MacGyver, The Facts of Life, and Webster, numerous times on The Tonight Show, the Arsenio Hall Show, Conan O’Brien and Jon Stewart’s early forays into late-night) has also become the celebrity spokesperson for the Holistic Moms Network, a national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting holistic and green parenting and living, as well as being the co-founder and chair of the youth branch of the Jewish Free Loan Association (Genesis) speaking on a variety of topics, including her journey to embracing traditional Jewish values. What a story, and now her book has become a major talking point across all media (I interviewed her right after her appearance on The View, but she has also been featured on Good Morning America and Nightline amongst others) focusing on the concept of “Attachment Parenting” which is known for a back-to-nature style of parenting — “baby-wearing” and “co-sleeping” and literally meeting your infant’s needs by being attached them as much as humanly possible.
Here “The King Of Kamelot” sits down with the brilliant and talented Mayim Bialik in NYC to talk about “Beyond The Sling” and her beliefs with Attached Parenting, her unique path from teenage star to PHD to Emmy Winner Jim Parson’s girlfriend, concepts in her parenting such as Co-Sleeping, Breast Feeding, and Baby Wearing, why she went from child star to getting her PHD in NeuroScience, and sooo much more!! On a personal note, this was such a fun interview because Mayim is an absolute sweetheart with a wonderful intellect, sense of humor, and charm, and it was a joy to be able to sit down and talk with her. Enjoy Kade Nation!!
And here is some of the media attention Mayim has gotten for “Beyond The Sling”:
