It is difficult to define words like “Courage”, “Bravery”, and “Determination” but Fawzia Koofi defines the meanings of those words to the fullest.  This remarkable woman is Afghanistan’s first female Parliament speaker, Vice President of it’s National Assembly, and a noted activist for women and children’s rights. Despite multiple assassination attempts, she is currently a leading candidate for the presidential elections in Afghanistan in 2014 (The first woman to run for President) and has been quoted by the BBC, Time, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, CNN, The Globe and Mail, and many others. In 2005 Koofi was elected to Afghanistan’s parliament, representing Badakshan province, and became chair of the standing committee on human rights, women’s rights and civil society. From 2005 to 2007 she served as the nation’s first female deputy speaker of parliament. As an advocate for human rights, Koofi has focused on improving the lives of women in Afghan prisons, ending violence against children, promoting access to education for women and children and protecting internally displaced people

The nineteenth daughter of a local village leader in rural Afghanistan, Fawzia Koofi was left to die in the sun after birth by her mother. But she survived, and perseverance in the face of extreme hardship has defined her life ever since. Despite the abuse of her family, the exploitative Russian and Taliban regimes, the murders of her father, brother, and husband, and numerous attempts on her life, she rose to become the first Afghani woman Parliament speaker. In her INCREDIBLE book “The Favored Daughter”, Fawzia shares her amazing story, punctuated by a series of poignant letters she wrote to her two daughters before each political trip—letters describing the future and freedoms she dreamed of for them and for all the women of Afghanistan.  Her story movingly captures the political and cultural moment in Afghanistan, a country caught between the hope of progress and the bitter truth of history.

Here “The King Of Kamelot” sits down with the bravest person he has ever had the honor of meeting, 2014 Afghan Presidential Candidate Fawzia Koofi, in NYC right after her appearance on Jon Stewart, to talk about her journey to become the first female to run for President in the rebuilding country, her fight for women’s rights in a country the has not been at the forefront of the cause, her thoughts on President Obama withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, her fight for life and education after being left for dead as a child, and soo much more!  I have had the privilege of interviewing some of the most accomplished, talented, and pioneering people in the world, but I have never been more in awe of anyone then Fawzia Koofi.  The courage and determination that she displays in the face of danger, resistance, assassination attempts, and a culture where women are not highly regarded, is inspiring beyond words, and I have never been more honored to speak with anyone.  Fawzia, you are a true hero!

PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TO FAWZIA KOOFI’S MISSION AND PURCHASE “THE FAVORED DAUGHTER”

I have never seen Jon Stewart give anyone the admiration or respect that he did Fawzia Koofi, right before she interviewed with me.  A MUST WATCH…
