Greil Marcus is considered perhaps the greatest critic and author of literature about Music and it’s impact on Pop Culture in history.  He has been a rock critic and columnist for Rolling Stone (where he was the first reviews editor, at $30 a week) and other publications, including Creem, The Village Voice, and Artforum. From 1983 to 1989, Marcus was on the Board of Directors for the National Book Critics Circle and has written some of the most profound books about music including one of my favorites “Mystery Train”, which has been called ‘The Greatest Book ever written about Rock”.  Time Magazine included “Mystery Train” on it’s list of the 100 greatest Non-Fiction Books ever written (It’s one of only 5 that deal with Culture, and the only one that deals with Music) and there is no doubt that the book re-defined the parameters of the way rock music was looked at in everyday society.  Many of his other works have also been bestsellers and have looked at some of the legendary music artists in history including Elvis, Dylan, Van Morrison, and even The Sex Pistols.   Greil is also the author of Lipstick Traces: A Secret History of the Twentieth Century and The Shape of Things to Come: Prophecy and the American Voice. His column, Real Life Rock Top Ten, runs monthly in the Believer.  Springsteen, Dylan, Elvis Costello and so many more have referred to Marcus’ work has groundbreaking..

Here “The King Of Kamelot” sits down with perhaps the greatest music author/critic of a generation in NYC, and discusses his new book “The Doors: A Lifetime Of Listening To Five Wild Years”, his iconic career in music, who his favorite subject to write about was, what he says as the current state of music, and even Lady Gaga!!  An amazing interview with a unique mind, so enjoy Kade Nation!!

On a Side Note, after I interviewed Greil, I had the chance to go to a gorgeous suite at MetLife Stadium for the Jets/Dolphins Game for Monday Night Football, and actually got yo hang out with and meet Republican Rockstar Governor Chris Christie (Such a cool dude!!)
