He is one of the top comedians/writers in the business, having won the prestigious Emmy Award for “Outstanding Individual Achievement In Writing In A Variety, Music or Comedy Program” (And was nominated for a second as well) and Peabody Award (The Pulitzer Prize Of Broadcasting) as a writer/personality on one of the top shows on Cable, and one of the most groundbreaking/genius shows ever put on TV, “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart”. He has appeared on some of the top variety shows on TV, including on Conan, where I first saw his stand-up, and thought he was an absolute hilarious genius . He is a national headliner who sells out clubs across North America and in Europe, and has performed at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and has made numerous TV appearances including, his own “Comedy Central Presents” half-hour special, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” “The Late, Late Show with Craig Kilborn” on CBS, Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn,” NBC’s “Late Friday,” Comedy Central’s “Dr. Katz” and numerous appearances on VH1’s popular clip shows. Paul has been a guest on The Joy Behar Show, Hannity, Red Eye, Fox News Channel and makes regular appearances on CNN, CNNfn and MSNBC as a political satirist. Paul was featured as a political satirist in the 2004 Presidential Election coverage by The Daily News, CNN, MSNBC, CNNfn, and ESPN2. He has also produced and written a web series for HBO called “Race In Sports” that is one of the funniest and coolest things you will ever see. Oh, and let’s not forget the various TV Pilots/Shows that he has been involved with over the past decade including the recently shot television pilot “Sports Central,” in which he starred, co-created and executive produced. Not too bad for a guy who went to Georgetown Law School, and ended up on Wall Street as an investment banker before selling a joke to Jay Leno that would change the course of his life.
I got the chance to see Paul Mecurio perform live at Helium (The top comedy club in Philadelphia which just the night before featured Kate Flannery from “The Office” and Scot Robinson from “Anchorman”) last night to a sold out crowd, and to say he was “Piss in Your Pants” funny would be an understatement. He does an amazing job in interacting with the crowd and getting every one involved (The reaction from the one of the ushers was “In 2 years here, he is one of the funniest acts I can remember along with Bill Burr”), and my stomach is still hurting from laughing so hard for 75 minutes. He is an absolute comic genius, and will be performing there until Saturday, and I think I am going back for Round 2 tomorrow night!!
Here he sits down for an intimate session with “The King Of Kamelot” to pretty much spend 11 minutes making me piss in my pants laughing some more!!
I would also like to give one of my good friends a “Kade Style” shout out on starting his new blog about the “Behind The Scenes” knowledge of catering!! I LOVE this topic, and having spent the last 30 mins of my life reading his entries, and just knowing in general how knowledgeable and fascinating a mind he is, and the access to some of the A List events and people he has, I think that this is a MUST READ for anyone interested in catering, cooking or culinary arts…Here is link to his blog…ENJOY!!!
