Anytime you have had an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award winning movie made about you where Meryl Streep plays you, Spike Jonze directs, and Charlie Kaufmann adapts the script, chances are you are probably pretty good at your craft. Well, in Susan Orlean’s case, she is not just good at her craft, but one of the best in the world, having become one of the most respected, and read writers out there. She has had 7 books published including the very famous “The Orchid Thief”, which was made into an amazing movie called “Adaptation”, starring Streep, Nicholas Cage, and Chris Cooper (Who were all nominated for Oscars for their performances with Cooper winning for Best Supporting Actor!), and now her knew book, “Rin Tin Tin: The Life And The Legend”, which has her traveling around the country on book tour including having just done “The Colbert Report”, focuses on the life of Hollywood’s most famous canine who went on to become possibly the most famous actor of his era. Outside of books, Orlean is also one of the most creative journalists in America. She has been a staff writer for the iconic “The New Yorker” since 1992, and has contributed articles to Vogue, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Outside, and she also wrote the Women’s Outside article, “Life’s Swell” (published in 1998), a feature on a group of young surfer girls in Maui, which became the the basis of the film Blue Crush.
Here “The King Of Kamelot” sits down with one of the most respected and well known writers in the country, to talk about her new book, what it’s like to be portrayed by the world’s top actress on the big screen, what has been her proudest accomplishment, what one of my idols, Stephen Colbert, is really like, and her experience on the show, and sooo much more!! She is one of America’s greatest journalistic treasures, and I have read several of her books including “The Orchid Thief” as well as articles in “The New Yorker”, and “Adaptation” is one of my favorite all time movies, so it was such an honor to sit down with “The Real Susan Orlean”, and interview her!! She is such an amazingly fascinating, intriguing, and awesome woman, who has truly risen to the top of her craft, so enjoy Kade Nation!! And I’m sure after seeing this interview, you will do what I did and go out and buy her new book!!
