As one DJ said last night at an absolutely sold out and electric Whisper (Last night was completely out of control, beyond crazy crowded and fun, and I even joked with one of The Entourage, “The whole city is empty.  I think it’s because everyone is in here dancing their asses off!!”), “DJ Jazzy Jeff is on the Mt. Rushmore of DJ’s.  He’s one of the reasons we are able to be where we are today.  He’s one of the most influential pioneers.  Look at the crowd here tonight!!  All here to hear him”.  For me, I was in complete awe in meeting the man, and interviewing him was like an adrenaline rush I can’t even describe (I told him “I get to do this with some big names, but this is a real honor for me.  I’m actually kinda nervous!”). I mean, seriously, it’s DJ Jazzy Jeff!!!  He was a childhood idol for my whole generation!! Everyone in my generation can think about memories of where they were at certain moments listening to “Summertime”!!  Who can’t close their eyes and visualize him and the great Will Smith doing the famous handshake on one of the most groundbreaking, and pioneering TV shows of all time, “The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air” (I still watch all the reruns), or remember lines from different episodes, or that song that everyone knows by heart that started each episode, or even the famous Uncle Phil toss out of the house.  The Glasses!! I wanted a pair of those black frame glasses everywhere I went, and would pretend to get on the turntables and be like him at every party!!!  And let’s not forget how many songs I have on my IPod that are from legendary artists that he has collaborated with, produced for, or helped launch the careers of like Will Smith, Boyz 2 Men, Jill Scott, and Musiq Soulchild just to name  a few!!!  There are only a few names and few faces that when you say them, or see them, bring back so many great memories, are so recognizable anywhere you go in the country, and can put a smile on your face every time you think back to that time in your life and Jazzy Jeff is one of them.  Most of all, DJ Jazzy Jeff is one of those people that makes you proud to say your from Philly, because he and Will Smith are everything that is good and light about the city of Brotherly Love, and have stayed Ambassadors to making and helping Philly be all it can be.  I mean seriously…It’s DJ Jazzy Jeff!!!!  A true musical/entertainment icon…

What was even cooler was the time I got to spend with him and his amazing wife, Lynette (Who also doubles as Jeff’s publicist, and couldn’t be a more down to Earth/cooler person, especially when I was explaining the difficulty I have in dating women 10-12 years younger then me and the maturity level that comes with that, and we talked about their lives, how they met, and I shared with her how much interviewing her husband meant to me) off camera.  The both of them couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating or more humble, and they are the type of people that you could see yourself having an amazing time over dinner with and having as friends for life.  Just awesome, awesome, people!! Jeff and Lynette, it was a pleasure to be able to spend that time with you and your family last night, and one of those rare moments when you look at your life and realize how blessed you are to be able to do what you do for a living, reminds me why I sold my financial practice to start “The Journey” in the first place, and the caliber of people that you get to meet along the way!!  Thanks Whisper Crew (Big shout out to Clark and team) for getting this done for me!!

Here is the “King Of Kamelot” talking with a true legend about everything from what Philly means to him, some of the great artists he has worked with and helped launch the careers of, the current state of the music/DJ world, the acts and adventures he is currently working on, and his close friendship with Will Smith
