It was a landmark night at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. All eyes in the music world were on the legendary Corrosion of Conformity as they kicked off their 2012 tour. The tour is in support of their long-awaited 8th studio album (3 of which have charted in the Billboard Top 200), self-titled Corrosion of Conformity. It’s the first release from the band’s original line-up since 1985’s Animosity, and the first studio album since 2005. The band is back to their true form on the new album. It offers the best of all worlds, from punk and metal to heavy sludge rock. C.O.C have long been experimenting with their sound, varying from punk, thrash metal, and stoner rock. Drawing influence from bands like Black SabbathDeep PurpleThe Ramones, and Metallica to create their own fresh, raw brand of alternative hard rock. Reed and I got a chance to talk about C.O.C.’s journey and what it’s like having the original line-up back together. He also let me in on a little secret: how the band got it’s name! The band is going to be embarking in a long world tour to support the new record, so you have no excuse not to see these legends live. Until they come to a city near you, the new album is out now on Candlelight Records, so go get and CRANK IT UP until your eardrums corrode.
